About
The Cable Stay's anchor holds a cable in place by gravity alone. There is no adhesive, no magnet and no friction pad involved, so it sits on a flat surface and stays where it is put.
In the ordinary case, a charging cable falls off the edge of a desk or nightstand the moment it is released, and the end drops out of reach. Twelve South's answer is a weighted base with soft-touch silicone, which lets the cable slide through smoothly as it is used while the weight keeps it from being dragged off. The weight holds steady on any surface, because it relies on nothing sticking to that surface in the first place.
The set includes a 1.5-metre woven USB-C cable, listed by Twelve South as 5 ft, which supports charging up to 60W. The cable and the anchor are colour-matched, and they are designed to be bought as one piece.
The anchor is not tied to its own cable. Multiple cables of varying thicknesses fit under the weighted base, so it can hold other USB cables too, and a desk with two or three leads can use a single weight for all of them.
That makes the Cable Stay a fix for one small, repeated annoyance, and nothing in the research claims more for it. It does not add ports or speed. It stops the cable falling behind the furniture.
