The Native Union Desk Mat has a different colour on each side, so one mat gives two looks depending on which way up it is laid. The Black / Kraft version measures 36 x 65 centimetres and weighs 0.41 kilograms, according to its Amazon UK listing.
The surface is an animal-free leather alternative that contains recycled content. It is smooth, which makes it usable as a mousepad and as a writing surface. A textured accent contrasts with that smooth finish, so the mat has a feel as well as a colour to tell the two sides apart.
Underneath, a non-slip grip holds the mat in place. That matters more than it sounds, because the same grip keeps the laptop, monitor and keyboard sitting on top of it from drifting across the desk as they are moved and used through the day.
The surface is also water-resistant, easy to clean and durable. A spilt drink wipes off instead of soaking in, and the mat takes the scratches that would otherwise land on the desk. Flip it over and the second side offers the same protection.
