About
Every yoga mat rolls, which is why every yoga mat needs somewhere round to live and a foam block bought separately to sit on. Stakt asked what happens if the mat is simply thick enough to fold.
The Stakt Mat is 12 mm thick, twice the padding of a traditional mat, and that extra depth is what lets it be creased down the middle and hold the shape instead of springing open. The slab is an EVA foam blend, chosen as a safer alternative to the PVC most mats are made from. Flat, it measures 69 by 24 inches. Folded, it becomes a platform 12 inches deep, 24 inches wide and 3 inches tall, which is a meditation seat, a low step, or something to wedge under a knee. The underside is ribbed so it stays put on a wood floor rather than creeping away mid-session.
All of that comes to 3 lb, so it travels under an arm rather than over a shoulder, and it stacks flat in a cupboard instead of unrolling itself every time the door opens. The folding design is covered by US design patent D1050762. Care is warm water and oil-free soap, and indoors: sun and pet claws are the two things Stakt warns about. A Pro version adds a textured top layer for sweatier sessions at 3.4 lb. Millie and Taylor started the company in 2020, having decided the mats they already owned were wrong for the way they actually trained.
