That distinction matters because aperture controls how much light physically reaches the sensor before any processing begins. A wider opening in dim conditions means less noise to correct later. A narrower opening for portraits means the depth-of-field effect comes from optics rather than from an algorithm guessing which edges belong to a face. The A20 Pro chip handles everything downstream with a dual 16-core Neural Engine, and its graphics performance runs 40 percent faster than the A19 Pro in iPhone 17 Pro, which means computational tasks that once queued now resolve mid-capture.

The A20 Pro also carries a next-generation vapour chamber, a detail that matters during sustained loads. Sustained performance without thermal throttling is what separates a benchmark number from a number that holds during a long video export or an extended gaming session.

Dynamic Island has been reduced in footprint compared to previous models, recovering screen area without removing the notification and activity functions it introduced. The whole device runs iOS 27 with Apple Intelligence built in, including an updated Siri. Battery life on the Pro Max configuration reaches 45 hours of video playback, the highest figure Apple has published for the line.
