About
The Samsung Smart Monitor M9 has a 4K webcam built into the bezel and a remote with dedicated Netflix, Prime and YouTube buttons, which makes it a monitor that can also behave like a television.
Its panel is a Quantum Dot OLED, 10-bit with a DCI-P3 gamut, and it supports HDR10, HDR10+ and DisplayHDR 400. Samsung rates brightness at 250 nits in SDR and 450 nits in HDR. The refresh rate reaches 165 Hz at 4K, with a 0.03ms (GtG) response time and G-Sync Compatible support. Inputs are one DisplayPort 1.4, one HDMI 2.1 and one USB-C, plus an upstream Type-C and two downstream USB ports.
The television side runs on Samsung's smart apps and Vision AI. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Apple AirPlay 2 are built in, and the remote has a microphone for Google Assistant and Alexa. Sound comes from two 5W speakers. There is no headphone jack.
OLED panels can wear when the same image stays on screen, so Samsung has added three defences. A heatpipe cooling system draws heat away from the panel, logo and taskbar detection dims those areas, and a periodic refresh routine runs in the background. Power draw is 62W at 200 nits.
The M9 suits a desk where one screen has to handle a game, a video call and an evening of streaming. Its wear protection matters most for a monitor that will leave a taskbar on screen all day.
