About
The Instax Mini Evo pairs 10 lens effects with 10 film effects, and because the two sets of dials combine, that makes 100 distinct looks from a single camera.
Shots are framed and captured on the LCD screen, a 3-inch panel with 460,000 dots. A 1/5-inch CMOS sensor with a primary colour filter records 2560 x 1920 pixels, behind a fixed 28mm-equivalent f/2 lens. Nothing prints until it is told to. Where a conventional instant camera exposes film the moment the shutter fires, the Evo stores the image first, so a frame can be judged on the screen before any film is used.
Two modes set the baseline for the picture. Instax-Natural gives conventional image quality, and instax-Rich pushes the colours to be more vibrant. The lens and film dials then act on top of whichever is chosen.
A smartphone connects in three ways. Direct Print sends pictures from the phone to the camera to be printed, and remote shooting lets the phone act as a remote control for the shutter. In the other direction, printed pictures can be saved on the phone as images with an instax frame around them.
A full charge gives approximately 100 printed images, which is a more useful figure than a shot count, since the camera can take far more pictures than it ever prints. The Fujifilm Instax Mini Evo is a digital camera with an instant printer attached, and the 100 effect combinations are how it makes that pairing worth the extra step.
