About
A spring pump gives the same dose whether you want a drop or a handful, and the only way to get more is to press again. Simplehuman's pump reads the hand instead.
The Simplehuman Liquid Sensor Pump sets the dose by distance: a hand held close to the sensor gets a little soap, and a hand held farther away gets more. Behind the sensor, a tubing pump forces the soap through an airtight tube in a fraction of a second, and a silicone valve at the spout stops the drip that usually follows. Simplehuman calls the mechanism clog-proof and says it is engineered to last through 150,000 cycles. If thick soap does stall it, covering the sensor window and switching the power off, on, off, on within two seconds starts a continuous dispense that flushes the line.
Refills go in through a wide opening under the lid, and a QR code printed under that same lid lets you reorder soap. Simplehuman recommends its own soap for the best performance, though the pump also works with hand sanitiser. The body is waterproof, so it can be wiped clean at the sink. It charges from an included puck, and its light pulses white while charging, holds solid white when full and turns red when the battery runs low. The puck will charge a phone as well. The pump comes in eight finishes, from Brushed and Matte Black to Brass, Oiled Bronze and Latte.
