About
The Smeg Minipro heats with a triple thermoblock system, which is how a machine this small gets to temperature quickly and still delivers strong steam. A thermoblock heats water as it passes through, so there is no boiler to wait on. Smeg says the three-block arrangement also keeps the coffee temperature stable, which is the part a single block usually struggles with.
The EMC02 pairs that with a 15 bar pump and an E61-style group head. Tom's Guide describes it as a manual machine: once a shot starts, it keeps pulling until the user stops it. Alongside that sit two preset espresso functions, one single and one double, with adjustable espresso length, so the presets can be changed rather than accepted as given. Steam has three intensity levels.
The front panel carries an integrated pressure gauge and an LCD display, so the pressure on a shot can be read as it runs. The panel itself is brushed aluminium with a polished edge. The control knob is cast from ZAMA, a zinc alloy, and the cup warmer on top is stainless steel.
The Smeg Minipro EMC02 is an Italian-made espresso machine that Smeg designed to give results like those of a Milanese cafe bar, and it won a Good Design Award in 2024. A blind filter and a cleaning brush come in the box, which covers the backflushing and cleaning that a machine with a manual group head will need.
