About
The Insta360 X5 records 360 video at up to 7680 x 3840, which Insta360 calls 8K, using two 1/1.28-inch sensors, one behind each lens. Each lens covers 170 degrees, so the two views overlap and the camera joins them into a single sphere.
That join is normally the chore. Most 360 footage has to be stitched on a computer after the shoot. The X5 stitches in-camera, and a 6-axis gyroscope handles stabilisation, so the file that comes off the card is already a finished sphere that stays level. Frame rates depend on resolution: 24, 25 or 30 fps at the full 7680 x 3840, and up to 60 fps at 5760 x 2880. Stills reach 72 MP (11,904 x 5952) and can be saved as DNG or INSP files.
Because the camera records the whole scene, the framing is chosen afterwards. The Invisible Selfie Stick effect removes the stick from the picture, and the new InstaFrame mode is another way to shape the shot. For dim scenes, Insta360 says the triple AI chip improves low-light performance.
The X5 has no internal storage. It records to a single microSD card, UHS-I up to 1 TB, and U3/V30 or faster is recommended. A removable 2400 mAh battery can be swapped for a spare. It connects over Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.2, and the USB-C port carries both data and power. The Standard Bundle includes one camera and one battery, and a 1/4"-20 thread covers tripods. It operates from -20 to 40°C and comes in Midnight Black, or in limited-edition Satin White.
