About
The dial on most dress watches makes a choice: Roman numerals or Arabic. The Tudor Monarch makes neither.
The dial runs Roman numerals from ten o'clock to two, then switches to Arabic from four to eight, leaving three and nine unmarked. It is an odd decision, and it reads as entirely natural on the wrist. The dark champagne ground sits behind applied hour markers, and the whole arrangement is protected by a sapphire crystal set into a 39mm stainless steel case that alternates polished and satin surfaces across its faceted planes. Case thickness is 11.9mm. The 2-link bracelet repeats the same faceting and closes with Tudor's T-fit clasp, so the geometry carries from case to wrist without interruption.
Inside, the Manufacture Calibre MT5662-2U is a self-winding movement with a bidirectional rotor system and a 65-hour power reserve, meaning a watch left on a Friday evening is still running Monday morning. The movement itself is finished to a standard that most owners will never see: Côtes de Genève striping, perlage on the plates, and an 18ct gold inlay on the rotor. A screw-down winding crown seals the case to 100 metres, a rating that sits well above what a watch of this appearance typically requires.
The Monarch is positioned as a dress piece, and the dark champagne dial and faceted case support that. The movement finishing argues for something more considered than occasion wear.
