About
The Ember Mug 3 holds a drink at a temperature the owner picks, using a built-in heater and precision sensors that switch on whenever the liquid drifts away from the setting.
An ordinary mug only ever loses heat. Coffee poured at the right temperature is wrong within minutes, and the usual fix is a microwave and a reheated, slightly burnt cup. Here the sensors read the drink as it cools and the heater tops it up, so the first sip and the last are meant to match. The target is set with a button on the mug itself, or fine-tuned in the Ember app if a few degrees matter.
Heat costs battery, and the mug is plain about it. Fitted with the sliding lid that comes in the box, it keeps a drink warm for over three hours on one charge. Battery life varies with the room, the lid and how hot the drink was when it went in, so those figures are a guide rather than a promise. On its charging coaster, also included, the mug can stay warm all day.
Indicator LEDs show the temperature setting, and the battery level while the mug is charging. There is no screen to read.
The practical detail that usually decides whether a heated mug gets used is cleaning. The Ember Mug 3 is top-rack dishwasher safe, but it needs to dry completely before it goes back on the coaster to charge.
