About
Most dual-time watches ask the wearer to do arithmetic. The Sky-Dweller does not. A fixed inverted red triangle sits permanently on the dial, pointing to the chosen reference time zone, so reading a second city requires no calculation and no additional crown position to remember.
The mechanism behind that simplicity is the fluted bezel, which on the Sky-Dweller is not decorative. It is the Ring Command system, a bidirectional rotatable bezel that engages with the movement to select between functions: setting the local time, adjusting the annual calendar, or correcting the reference zone. Inside, Calibre 9002 runs to a tolerance of minus 2 to plus 2 seconds per day. The annual calendar reads the correct date through the full year, displaying the month through 12 apertures arranged around the dial, and requires a single manual correction each March. Both complications share one integrated movement rather than sitting as separate modules stacked on top of each other.
The case is Rolex's own 18 kt Everose gold, a patented pink gold alloy cast in the Rolex foundry rather than sourced externally. The monobloc middle case is sealed with a screw-down case back and a Twinlock winding crown, with a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal and Cyclops lens above. The Jubilee bracelet uses five-piece links and closes with a folding Oysterclasp that includes an Easylink extension of 5 mm, allowing the fit to be adjusted without tools.
