About
A home office can feel perfectly fine while the carbon dioxide in it climbs. Awair says high indoor CO2 can impair performance and decision-making, and the Element is built to tell you when it is time to open a window or take a break.
The Awair Element is an indoor air quality monitor that tracks five factors, temperature, humidity, carbon dioxide, chemicals (VOCs) and fine dust (PM2.5), and combines them into a single score from 0 to 100. Inside, Awair's airflow design pairs a fan with a laser sensor, a layout the company has tested and modified since it was founded in 2013. The ranges are wide: fine dust from 0 to 1,000 µg/m³, VOCs from 0 to 60,000 ppb, temperature from -40 to 125°C to within 0.2°C, and humidity across the full 0 to 100% to within 2%.
Readings show on the device in real time. A button on the back steps through each factor in turn. The free Awair app adds notifications for whichever factors you select, a map comparing neighbourhood indoor averages with outdoor air, history that shows how your actions change the numbers, and personalised tips for improving them. The Element joins a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network, carries Bluetooth 4.1 Low Energy, and runs from an external 5V, 2A power adapter, so it lives near a socket on a desk or shelf.
